Mark McGwire

Mark McGwire nicknamed "Big Mac", is a formerMajor League Baseball player who played his major league career with theOakland Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals. He is now the batting coach fo the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1987, he broke the single-season home run record for rookies, with 49. In 1998 McGwire and Sammy Sosa achieved national fame for their home run-hitting. That year McGwire hit 70 home runs breaking the major league record at the time.

In 2010, after accepting the position of Cardinals hitting coach, McGwire admitted to using steroids during his playing career. Many of McGwire's accomplishments, exspecially 1998 season in which he broke Roger Maris' single season home run record, came under suspicion during Major League Baseball's steriod scandal in the 1990s.

Mcgwire once said "I wish I had never touched steroids. It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."

  1. Yeah it was foolish of him to take steroids. In my opinion steroids in baseball are bad because if every player took steroids than there would be no competition in the game anymore and no one would want to watch it. baseball without steroids is cool because it allows the players to set a higher goal and have competition. It would be very boring if no one could win a game which would happened if every team and every player took steroids.

  2. Taking steroids in baseball has become a major problem in the years with people now confessing that they have used them before. I believe that anyone who has taken them in their baseball career should be taken out of the hall of fame or any awards or records they broke should be taken away. Their are some players who work so hard to try and make it in the hall of fame or even break a record, but they cant because the players on steroids get them just from taking a drug. And Ed is right there wouldn't be any competition in baseball if everyone is on drugs. I would find it boring and I wouldn't want to watch it anymore.

  3. McGwire was a great hitter without the steriods. I dont understand why he took them. His highest homerun season did come after using steriods, but prior to his abuse, he was a home run hitter as well
